Matt 28:19-20 - Great Commission - "baptizing them, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you"

Acts 2:42 - "they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching"

Discipleship is the way we build up and strengthen our faith. They are opportunities to be fed spiritually. We won’t be able to serve or reach out if our tanks are on empty. We need to be filled in order to share. If we are continually growing and being fed we can naturally fulfill the other purposes.

We are to help people become more like Christ. That is discipleship. 

We need to build a solid foundation of faith in each person. This will be a life-long process. I still don’t know anyone who has arrived at perfect spiritual maturity. We are all a work in progress. We need to be lifelong learners. This happens primarily through discipleship.

Many churches are very strong on discipleship and can be over-balanced in this area.  That isn’t bad, but we are striving for balance.

1) Are we keeping Discipleship in balance at Northridge?

2) Have we committed an equal amount of volunteer help, time, energy, prayer and finances to Discipleship?

3) What is holding us back from fulfilling this purpose of Discipleship?
